Metro Vancouver, BC – (April 10, 2012) – They exemplify the term "Leading by Example", and on March 29, 2012, they were recognized for it. The 2012 Celebration of Leadership and Service reception celebrated the contributions of 19 Kwantlen Polytechnic University student leaders. The reception, which was held at the Kwantlen Surrey campus, recognized the students' leadership contributions - at Kwantlen and in the community - and featured a keynote speech by City of Langley Mayor Peter Fassbender.

This is the inaugural year for Kwantlen's Student Life and Community Division Awards which recognizes students with the "Contribution to Student Life Award" and the "Giving Back Citizenship Award" in the amounts of $500 and $1,000 each, respectively.

The "Contribution to Student Life Award" was awarded to the following 14 Kwantlen students who demonstrated an outstanding contribution to student life: Muhjah Abousaleh, Michael Chang, Samuel Chin, Andrea Danyluk, Ashley Doyle, Iman Ghahremani, James Grange, Aadil Jesani, Kritika Kanotra, Debbie Langtry, Cassie Plotnikoff, Devon Richards, Sheridan Taylor and Manpreet Uppal.

The "Giving Back Citizenship Award" was awarded to the following seven Kwantlen students who demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the external community through volunteering: Michael Chang, Charlene Chen, David Dryden, David Warren Koyanagi, Debbie Langtry, April Nicholls and Anna Smith.

The division of Student Life and Community would like to congratulate its student award recipients and thank all dedicated student leaders who volunteer their time and energy to make Kwantlen and its communities a better place for all.
