KPU introduces safety app for students, staff, faculty

Wed, Aug 30, 2017

Safety resources are now just a click away for students, staff and faculty at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU).

The university has introduced a free mobile app—KPU Safe—that connects students and employees with a multitude of security and emergency services. App users can:

     -Contact security and emergency services
-Find out what to do in an emergency
-Access support resources such as counselling and first aid
     -View interactive campus maps
-Arrange for an escorted walk on any KPU campus or share their walking location with a friend
-Get help for car trouble on campus, such as a flat tire or dead battery

“KPU Safe is a way for our students and employees to connect quickly and easily with resources, services and initiatives designed to enhance their safety and security on campus,” explains Phil Goulet, KPU’s chief safety officer. “The information is right there at your fingertips.

Emergency planning manager Cam Kowalski notes that KPU Safe is the best way to stay up to date in the event of a safety or security issue at KPU, such as during an emergency or weather-related campus closure like we saw in the winter. After installing the app on a mobile device, users gain instant access to important safety resources all in one place, and receive safety notifications the moment they are issued.

“The app allows us get vital information to the university community quickly, which is essential during an emergency,” adds Kowalski.

Download KPU Safe from the App Store (iOS) or on Google play (Android).

KPU is committed to the safety and security of every member of our KPU community. We have resources to help students, employees, and guests stay safe as they learn, work, and engage with KPU! Visit kpu.ca/security.
