Discover new opportunities at KPU Richmond’s Open House

Fri, Oct 12, 2018

Discover the possibilities of a future career at Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s Richmond Open House. High school students getting ready to graduate and mature students looking for new career options, or to upgrade their skills, can learn about different programs and opportunities available to them. The public is also invited to explore KPU.

“The open house is our chance to connect with the community and showcase everything KPU has to offer, from unique programs and innovative approaches to hands-on education to the learning opportunities outside of the classroom,” says KPU President and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Alan Davis.

Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities in various departments. In the Faculty of Arts, participants will have a chance to write their own haiku or build a skeleton and look at a human fossil.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, health is greatly influenced by the five key elements: wood, fire, earth, metal and water. In the five elements game, participants try to match the element with the associated body part affected by the element. Elsewhere in the Faculty of Health, a twist on the game Operation will show participants some of the hard encounters nursing students face.

The Faculty of Science will have displays of human specimens and live animals, including a special guest – a pet snake.

For the technology enthusiasts, the Faculty of Trades and Technology will showcase how to take apart a microwave. At the Wilson School of Design, attendees are invited to participate in a real-life design class and complete a design challenge with current students.
