A redesigned business diploma program that offers students significant new flexibility will launch this fall at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU).
Grounded in critical thinking, industry practice and applied projects, the Post-Baccalaureate Diploma in Human Resources Management in the Melville School of Business at KPU is designed for students who have already completed a bachelor’s degree — or have an equivalent combination of education and work experience — and are seeking a specialized, career-focused credential.
“The program is well-suited for human resources professionals working toward a designation or career advancement, those looking to move into a new career, and also recent bachelor’s degree graduates from crossover fields such as psychology and sociology,” says Lesley McCannell, instructor and program chair.
Key to the relaunched program is compressed course delivery. Courses will now be taught twice a week over six weeks — and classes will be offered evenings to better accommodate work obligations.
Additional flexibility lies in the mix of in-person and online participation, providing for full engagement regardless of where students are attending from. Students will also experience an innovative and engaging asynchronous online format, which allows students to access materials and complete assignments on their own schedule.
“Being a future-focused program, an important goal is to embed innovation, technology and adaptability to prepare students for the changing world of work,” says McCannell.
The program has been further streamlined to 33 required credits that include general management content to complement a human resources concentration. In 12 months, full-time students can complete the diploma, or 24 months for part-time learners.
McCannell says the demand for human resources professionals is high and employment options are diverse, with jobs available in labour relations, recruitment and training and development, among others. HR professionals are also heavily involved in helping organizations understand and implement AI, adds McCannell.
“Whether you’re strengthening your organizational management skills, pursuing formal education to advance your career, or transitioning into a human resources or management role, this program is designed to prepare students for the real human resources management challenges that face organizations today.”
