Call for REB Members, apply by Friday May 16th, 2025

 

CALL FOR REB MEMBERS POSITIONS WITH EXPERTISE IN ETHICS AND RESEARCH CONTENT AND METHODOLOGIES

 

KPU’s Research Ethics Board (REB) invites applications from the broad university community to serve on the REB, as per Basic Research Ethics Board Membership Requirements in the Tri-Council Policy Statement 2 (TCPS 2 2022). The open positions are:

  1. One 2-year position (Sept. 1, 2025 – August 31, 2027) for an REB member knowledgeable in Ethics.

  2. One 2-year position (Sept. 1, 2025 – August 31, 2027) for an REB member knowledgeable in Research Content and Methodology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The REB reviews the ethical acceptability of all research involving humans in compliance with the Tri-Council Policy Statement, KPU’s RS1 Research Involving Human Participants Policy, and other relevant ethical standards, policies, and legislation. 

In general, the REB meets monthly for approximately two hours in a hybrid setting (Teams and on campus) and conducts additional work outside of meetings. 

 

Opportunities exist for professional development, mentorship, and networking. A typical workload involves:

  • Review of one to 4 applications per month
  • Development and/or review of guidelines related to research ethics

 

REB members must be compliant with the Responsible Conduct of Research  framework. They should be current with their knowledge of the Tri-Council Policy Statement, at all times and related interpretations, and will be required to undertake the most recent TCPS2 Core tutorial training.

 

Applicants must be KPU employees (e.g. faculty members, junior administrators or staff) with work contracts that align with the term length of the relevant position. Successful applicants will have current or recent experience conducting research with human participants and/or research ethics expertise. To ensure the independence of REB decision making, KPU senior administrators are ineligible.
