KPU’s Brewing and Brewery Operations Diploma was created to meet the demand for knowledgeable, trained brewers with an education in brewing science.

Our curriculum — developed in consultation with the BC Craft Brewers Guild, local breweries and industry experts — teaches students critical skills and provides training with brewing equipment and technologies, recipe formulation, sensory evaluation, brewing chemistry and microbiology, production and packaging, sales and promotion, and management and supervisory skills. Upon graduating, students will earn their university diploma and credits.

Which path will you choose?

Whether you’re ready to study full-time or need to fit learning into your lifestyle, our brewing programs are designed for flexibility, industry relevance, and real-world impact.

1) Diploma: Full-Time  (2 Years) OR Part-Time (3-4 Years)

The full-time Brewing and Brewery Operations Diploma is a two-year program based on our Langley Campus. There is one intake per year, each Fall, with two terms per academic year running from the beginning of September to the end of April.

Students can also choose to complete the Brewing and Brewery Operations Diploma part-time over three or four years to allow greater flexibility time-wise and budget-wise. Classes are offered at the same time as full-time courses, however, fewer are taken each term, spreading the full program out over three or four years.

In your Letter of Intent, you must clearly indicate which completion option you are applying for

These short, for-credit courses are perfect for people working in the brewing or hospitality industries or hobbyists who want to enhance their knowledge and skills. Choose from four options:

  • Brewing – Gain hands-on experience in the brewing process from grain to glass. (3 courses)

  • Brewing Science – Explore the technical and scientific principles behind great beer. (3 courses)

  • Business of Brewing – Learn the essentials of running a successful brewing operation. (3 courses)

Please note: All applicants must complete the full diploma application process, even if they are pursuing micro-credentials. The advantage? If you choose to continue on and pursue the full Brewing Diploma, you’ll already be in the program and ready to continue your studies—no need to reapply. In your Letter of Intent, include which completion option you are interested in (i.e., diploma track (part time or full time track); one-year certificate; or micro-credential/s).

Learn more about each of our different completion options at an upcoming information session or email study@kpu.ca to schedule an appointment to speak with one of our Future Students Office recruiters.
