Xin obtained her PhD degree in Organic Chemistry from UBC in 2005, under the supervision of Dr. David Dolphin. She then worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow and sessional lecturer at UBC until she joined KPU in 2008. The research experience in her PhD program involved the design, synthesis and property studies of chlorin- and porphyrin-related molecules, and their applications as potential drug candidates in photodynamic therapy. She completed her MSc and BSc degrees in Chemistry at NanKai University in Tianjin, China.

Her teaching career at KPU allows Xin the opportunity to fulfill the passion of helping, sharing and learning with both students and colleagues. Other than teaching and committee service, Xin has recently been actively involved in the application of open education resources in teaching and learning. She has authored two OER textbooks, Organic Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry II. It is an enjoyable and rewarding experience for Xin to apply her expertise in this field, and make education accessible and affordable to more learners.
