IndyKids: "IndyKids is a free newspaper, website and teaching tool that aims to inform children on current news and world events from a progressive perspective and to inspire a passion for social justice and learning. It is geared toward kids in grades 4 to 7. IndyKids produces content monthly during the school year (September through May) with five print editions and four online editions.IndyKids currently produces 10,000 copies of every print issue – and reaches kids in 36 states across the nation through nearly 200 classroom and individual subscriptions. Human Security Report Project:
"The Human Security Report Project (HSRP) is an independent research centre affiliated with Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Vancouver, Canada. Formerly located at the University of British Columbia and known as the Human Security Centre, the HSRP joined SFU in May of 2007. The HSRP tracks global and regional trends in organized violence, their causes and consequences. Research findings and analyses are published in the Human Security Report, Human Security Briefseries, and the miniAtlas of Human Security. HSRP publications have received major coverage in the international media and are regularly cited by national governments, international agencies, and NGOs, as well as the research community."
The Zinn Project: "The Zinn Education Project promotes and supports the use of Howard Zinn’s best-selling book A People’s History of the United States and other materials for teaching a people’s history in middle and high school classrooms across the country. Rogers Park Young Women’s Action Team (YWAT) "strives daily to end violence against women and girls. YWAT came together in 2003 to respond to the problem of street harassment in Rogers Park. The core team of high-school aged young women is determined to hold the community accountable for violence against women and girls. YWAT first took action against street harassment and then teen dating violence by conducting in-depth community-based research projects. These studies were published into reports that are used to raise awareness among community members and elected officials. In 2004, the YWAT forced broader attention to the issue of street harassment through its RESPECT campaign. The team cooperated with over 125 local businesses and other public spaces to blanket the community with signs demanding a stop to street harassment. Through this campaign, the YWAT successfully advocated for better lighting on two main streets in the Rogers Park community." http://www.rogersparkywat.org/
Project NIA: "Project NIA offers a new way of thinking about crime and violence. We use the principles of participatory community justice – often called restorative or transformative justice – which has been shown to meet the needs of victims, reduce recidivism, and improve satisfaction with the legal system. Community-based justice models redefine the goals of the criminal legal system to include the prevention of crime as well as community member involvement in addressing crime. We believe that communities are strengthened when local citizens participate in responding to crime, delinquency and violence because they are more likely to tailor responses to the preferences and needs of victims, perpetrators, and their neighbours."
