This initiative supports the academic aspirations of Indigenous students and seeks to strengthen respectful, reciprocal relationships with the seven Nations on whose unceded, ancestral and traditional territories KPU’s campuses are situated.
Eligibility Criteria & Verification
The tuition waiver is available to students who are:
- Verified members of one of the following First Nations: Katzie, Kwantlen, Kwikwetlem, Musqueam, Qayqayt, Semiahmoo and Tsawwassen and,
- Enrolled as a new or continuing student in a Senate approved program that includes any citation, certificate, diploma, undergraduate, graduate degree program, including those in Trades and Technology as well as Academic and Career Preparation. Steps for Students:
- Email Indigenous Student Services at IndigenousServices@kpu.ca to inquire about the Indigenous application fee waiver for your admission application, as well as to request the Indigenous Tuition Waiver Request Form.
- Submit the completed Tuition Waiver Form to IndigenousServices@kpu.ca
- Contact the Education Coordinator from your Nation to request a letter confirming your membership.
Steps for the Education Coordinator for the Nation:
- Submit a letter on official Nation letterhead verifying the student’s membership status, including the students full name, date of birth and KPU ID number to IndigenousServices@kpu.ca
- If the Nation is covering additional costs (books, other non-covered fees), please complete the Student Sponsorship Application form available under the Sponsorship tab and submit it to accounts.receivable@kpu.ca
Deadlines:
The Tuition Waiver Form and membership letter are to be sent to IndigenousServices@kpu.ca by the following deadlines:
- Fall term: August 1st
- Spring term: December 1st
- Summer term: April 1st
What the Tuition Waiver Covers:
- Tuition and student fees related to libraries, technology, and student life.
What the Tuition Waiver Does Not Cover:
- Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) fees, Extended Health & Dental, and MultiPass/U-Pass BC fees (Note: Students may opt out of health and dental coverage if they have an alternate plan or First Nations’ benefits). To obtain an estimate of student fees, use the tuition estimator tool that includes an approximate amount for fees based on selected program and number of credits per term.
Important: It is the student’s responsibility to be aware of and follow proper procedure should they wish to drop a course and/or withdraw from a program. Refer to KPU Registration | Kwantlen Polytechnic University for more information.
