Three KPU Eagles named PACWEST Basketball All-Star award honours

(Metro Vancouver, BC) – The Pacific Western Athletic Association (PACWEST) announced the men’s and women’s basketball All-Star awards for the 2012-2013 season on February 26, and three Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) Eagles were named to the honour roll.

Representing KPU on the women’s second team All-Star is second-year guard, Jessica Villadiego (Surrey). Villadiego was named to the All-Rookie team in the 2011-2012 season and continued to impress in her second year. Returning as team captain, Villadiego led the Eagles in minutes played, and finished the regular season in second place in PACWEST league assists, averaging 3.95 per game. Joining Villadiego on the All-Star list, as a member of the All-Rookie team, is first year forward, Amber-Lee Kavanagh (Langley). Kavanagh earned her way into the Eagles weekly starting line-up and was named PACWEST Athlete of the Week in week 10. Throughout her rookie season, she has developed a reputation for taking some tough charges for the Eagles and finished the regular season in ninth place in PACWEST rebounds, averaging 7.05 per game.

The Eagles women’s basketball team completed the regular season with a 10W-11L record, advancing to the 2013 PACWEST Provincial Championships, scheduled for February 28 to March 2, in Victoria, BC. Their quarter final match-up is scheduled for Thursday, February 28, against the Quest University Kermodes. For more information, visit: http://www.pacwestbc.ca/basketball2013.

In the men’s All-Star basketball awards, the Eagles stand-out forward Ali Bosir (Surrey) was recognized as a member of the men’s second team All-Star. Bosir, a fourth-year athlete and captain for the Eagles, completed the PACWEST season in first place in both points (21.75 ppg) and rebounds (15.30 rpg). Throughout the 21 game schedule Bosir achieved multiple double-doubles and multiple 20 point and 20 rebound games. He was recognized by the PACWEST as the men’s basketball Athlete of the Week three times, in week 1, 3 and 7.
