About the Students

For second-year Brewing diploma students Warren Downey and Peter Barry, Cherry Pie Hefeweizen was inspired by a love of Belgian and German beers, as well as fruited Hefes that balance the fruitiness with the wheat and yeast flavours of this traditional-style beer.

Warren comes from a background in farming and has a passion for creating, and its been a dream of his to combine the two into a career he enjoys. Beer has always had a place in his heart and he loves tweaking and perfecting his brews, and sharing his creations with others.

When Warren isn’t in class, you can find him working at Wildeye Brewing in North Vancouver, exploring the outdoors or tinkering with anything mechanical.

Peter already had a love of beer and brewing as a homebrewer before he decided to change careers from being a power engineer to a brewer. The amazing beer culture in BC and his technical ability drew him to the award-winning KPU Brewing program.

A self-proclaimed ‘adrenaline junkie’, you’ll often find Peter kiteboarding or downhill mountain biking when’s not at school or working. He’s currently a cellar person at Smuggler’s Trail Caskworks in Langley and hopes to be a head brewer one day.
