Our Communities of Practice serve as vital spaces for students, faculty, and staff to connect, share knowledge, and drive meaningful change. With various communities currently in development, we’re excited to engage everyone in this important work.
KPU RISE (Racialized Identities in Solidarity & Empowerment)
The Office of Equity and Inclusive Communities is excited to launch the KPU RISE Community of Practice (Racialized Identities in Solidarity & Empowerment), a new initiative dedicated to bringing together KPU employees in a supportive and empowering space.
KPU RISE is designed to foster connection, dialogue, and collective learning among colleagues with shared lived experiences as people of colour. This informal and safe space encourages members to share, support one another, and explore themes of racial equity, belonging, and inclusion within the workplace.
The group will meet once every two months for 90 minutes, with sessions alternating between in-person and virtual (MS Teams) formats.
If you are a KPU employee who self-identifies as a person of colour and would like to join this community of practice, please email oeic.reg@kpu.ca.
Disability Inclusion Group
History
The Disability Inclusion Group (DIG) was formed in 2021 to provide community members with disabilities an opportunity to:
- To support and empower students, staff, and faculty with disabilities at KPU
- To increase awareness, affirmation and education around disability issues
- To challenge ableism and reduce stigma
- To contribute to the development of a supportive, anti-ableist culture and to help create a more accessible, inclusive, and safer campus community
- To demonstrate KPU’s commitment to enrich and enliven the diversity of its community, including people with disabilities.
Upon the creation of the Accessibility Committee in 2023, DIG transformed into a Community of Practice in 2024.
