Job Description

Townsite Brewing is on a mission of creating authentically augmented experiences for our community, and we take pride in our beer. As the Brewer, you will be responsible for all aspects of beer production process as well as the day-to-day operations at Townsite. Duties will include raw materials acquisition and handling, brewing, cellaring, packaging, maintenance and cleaning. Duties and Responsibilities (additional duties may be assigned):

  • Beer production: You will be responsible for all aspects of beer production, including but not limited to:

    • production,

    • fermentation,

    • yeast management,

    • cleaning/sanitation,

    • bottling and canning,

    • kegging (cleaning kegs, filling kegs, re-arrange inventory)

    • routine maintenance, general upkeep and cleaning,

    • inventory management

    • Ensuring high quality control by keeping detailed records of the materials used, recipes and packaging amounts.

    • Working with manager to ensure brewing timelines, production goals and key performance indicators are met.

    • Ensuring that processes are performed on time, and that production goals are met.

    • Making suggestions for areas of possible cost savings.

  • Maintaining high-level maintenance and operations:
    • Ensuring that the production process is running smoothly and you are working efficiently.

    • Ensuring that all production activities meet Townsite’s standard operating procedures for the safety, quality, and sustainability of the processes and inform operations manager if SOPs are not up to date.

    • Working with the operations team to quickly make changes to issues that emerge in the production process such as production goals, issues with raw materials, and mechanical issues.

    • Executing all cellar operations including tank transfer, cleaning and sanitation procedures, inventory and turn-over.

    • Packaging: ensuring that all packaging activities meet Townsite’s standard operating procedure for the safety and quality of the processes.

    • Providing sales staff with information regarding the beer and brewery operations to help increase customer relations

Experience and Skills:

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk, talk, hear, use hands to finger, grasp, handle or feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, crawl or bend, and perform repetitive motions of the hands and/or wrists.

  • Ability to occasionally exert up to 160 pounds of force to lift kegs. Ability to occasionally exert up to 50 pounds of force, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Maintaining proper mental and visual attention to detect and adjust different aspects of production operations

  • Ability to manage stressful circumstances associated with a fast-paced work environment.

Aptitudes and Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Brewing, BS or BA in Operations, Engineering or Chemistry is preferred

  • 3-5 years of brewing experience, either in craft beer or large-scale production

  • Demonstrated ability to manage a production line

  • Knowledge of WorkSafe BC and safety standards

  • Good understanding of quality assurance / quality control and problem-solving skills and to troubleshoot any production related issues

  • Proven ability to drive improvement and innovation in production

  • Strong communication and administration skills to interact with guests, vendors, and coworkers in a professional manner

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Positive professional attitude

  • Team player with the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure

  • Forklift drivers license an asset

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.)

Environmental Conditions:

While performing the duties of this position, the team member might be exposed to environmental conditions such as extreme heat/cold/humidity, potential for physical injury, exposure to hot/cold fluids, confined spaces, pressurized vessels and transfer lines, strong odors, corrosive/dangerous chemicals, and unpleasant tasks.

 

Pay Range :  $47,000-$54,000
