Job Description

The Head Brewer will be responsible for overseeing brewing, cellaring, packaging, sanitation, and general production, while also leading production planning, quality control, equipment maintenance, and new product development. The position will require the ability to manage daily operations in Harbour Grace independently, take ownership of production at this location, and coordinate with the YellowBelly Brewery team in St. John’s. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Lead day-to-day brewing and beverage production at the Harbour Grace facility 
  • Oversee brewhouse operations, including milling, mashing, boiling, fermentation, conditioning, and packaging 
  • Develop and manage production schedules to meet brand, inventory, and distribution needs 
  • Take responsibility for product consistency, quality control, and batch approval 
  • Maintain and improve brewing, cellar, packaging, sanitation, and production procedures 
  • Lead recipe development, product trials, seasonal releases, and new beverage innovation • Oversee fermentation management, yeast handling, transfers, dry hopping, and conditioning programs 
  • Manage production records, batch tracking, inventory controls, and reporting 
  • Assist with equipment selection, installation, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting 
  • Work with ownership and the YellowBelly Brewery team on long-term production planning and facility growth 
  • Ensure all sanitation, food safety, workplace safety, and quality standards are followed 
  • Train, supervise, and support brewing and production staff as the operation expands 
  • Coordinate with the St. John’s brewing team to maintain consistency across YellowBelly brands
  • Help guide future expansion into cider, iceberg water, soft drinks, ready to drink products, and specialty beverages 

Experience and Skills:

  • Significant commercial brewing experience required
  • Experience operating brewhouse and cellar equipment
  • Strong understanding of sanitation, quality control, and production systems
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment
  • Experience with packaging equipment considered an asset
  • Ability to work independently in a production environment
  • Leadership experience considered an asset
  • Willingness to relocate to the Harbour Grace / St. John’s area
  • Passion for craft beer and beverage production 

Pay Range:  50-70+ K
