The Indigenous Admissions Committee may consider Indigenous applicants on an individual basis for those who do not qualify under other applicant categories of admission. Indigenous applicants include status and non‐status First Nations, Métis, or Inuit peoples of Canada.
The Indigenous Admissions Committee will consider your educational background, history, cultural knowledge, life experience, academic goals, and other personal achievements in determining your admissibility and readiness for university study. The recommendations from the Indigenous Admissions Committee will be sent back to the Registrar, who will notify you of the decision.
How do I qualify?
- Self-identify as an Indigenous applicant on the initial online application for admission to KPU, or inform Admissions (admissions@kpu.ca) that you wish to change this selection (if the application is already submitted).
- Connect with Admissions to see if your admission should be reviewed by the Indigenous Admissions Committee, prior to collecting the documentation below.
- If Admissions confirms you should proceed as an Indigenous applicant, submit the following Indigenous applicant package by email to admissions@kpu.ca or in person at any Student Enrolment Services office:
- A personal letter outlining your Indigenous heritage, educational background, academic goals, how you have prepared for university studies and any personal experiences or achievements in support of your application.
- Reference letters from two referees that support your readiness for academic studies.
- Documentation of Indigenous heritage; this can include, but is not limited to:
- a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis status card
- official letters from Indigenous organizations
- written or oral statements from Elders
or other relevant information you wish to include
