How much land is used by Kwantlen Polytechnic University?

To answer this question, the urban geography class at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) in the Spring semester of 2006 calculated the 'ecological footprint' of our campuses.

Our conservative estimate is that about 3,039 hectares of land somewhere on earth are 'appropriated' for campus-related activities. This is 42 times greater than the area of the campus itself, and represents about 0.33 hectare per FTE (full time equivalent) student.

Campus-related transportation, mainly in private cars is responsible for most of the KUC footprint. The second largest footprint area results from on-campus consumption of hydroelectricity and gas....
