Replanting and Next Steps

The City of Surrey Tree Protection Bylaw 16100 requires the planting of 39 replacement trees on the property and the payment of a refundable replacement tree deposit of $550 per tree. 

To support replanting efforts, the City of Surrey has provided the following replacement information:

With confirmation of our tree cutting permit, maintenance activity is scheduled for mid-December 2023 with work happening when campus occupancy is low to maximize safety and minimize disruptions. 

Work includes mitigation of unsafe conditions in the KPU Surrey central forest with an aim to preserve wildlife habitat, reduce fire risks and donate useable timber and materials to our partners in the Kwantlen First Nation for use in their cultural activities and initiatives. 

In addition, KPU has enlisted a professional arborist assessor to revisit the Surrey campus grounds and perform an updated hazardous tree risk assessment survey.
