Kwantlen honours landscape design alumnus with Distinguished Alumni Award
(METRO VANCOUVER, B.C.) Michael Bjorge, Kwantlen landscape design alumnus and Surrey resident received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
Bjorge is principle designer and owner of Pacifica Landscape Works and the Pacific Design Group—a Surrey-based landscape design firm he started after graduating from Kwantlen with a Diploma in Horticulture Technology Landscape Design in 1999.
Bjorge captures landscape design visions and transforms them into functional outdoor living spaces. He is passionate about landscape design and his commitment is evident in his creations. Bjorge’s design philosophy and innovative style have earned numerous prestigious accolades, including the National Award for Landscape Excellence.
A leader in the community, Bjorge is committed to giving back. He volunteers for the B.C. Landscape and Nursery Association and contributes to several local charities. Moreover, Bjorge has recently established a bursary at Kwantlen called the Pacifica Landscape Works Award. This annual award presents $750 to a Landscape Design and Installation Diploma student who has maintained a GPA of 3.0 and is in financial need.
Upon receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award, Bjorge credits Kwantlen’s hands-on training for his continuing success. “The combination of landscape design and business courses provided excellent ground work for someone wanting to become self-employed in the landscape design field. The practical, hands-on education was something I could personally identify with, and it enabled me to pursue and achieve my goals,” remarked Bjorge.
Initiated in 2007 in honour of Kwantlen’s 25th Anniversary, Kwantlen’s Distinguished Alumni Awards program recognizes Kwantlen alumni who have enhanced the reputation of the university through their outstanding career, public service, community service, athletic, arts and culture or academic achievements.
