Thu, Jun 10, 2010

Amy Yiu, Diploma in General Studies graduate, received the Kwantlen Polytechnic University President’s Outstanding Graduate Award for a diploma program at Kwantlen’s 2010 Convocation ceremony held at its Surrey Campus.

“This is my second time at Kwantlen as a student,” explains Yiu. “I was enrolled in the Associate Degree of Science program before transferring to complete my science degree at UBC. Now I’ve applied to the new Bachelor of Science—Major in Applied Psychology at Kwantlen, and I’m planning to pursue a master’s degree, either in health studies or education.”

Yiu is currently putting her passion for education and commitment to community service to work as an educational advisor and active volunteer at Kwantlen.

“As an international student, I had to adjust to significant cultural differences with limited support from my family and friends,” remembers Yiu. “Kwantlen helped me tremendously in adapting to a new society. I definitely recommend Kwantlen to students from all over the world. Kwantlen has helped me achieve my dreams, and start a successful career.”

Presented annually, this award encourages Kwantlen students to excel in their chosen fields of study and to participate in university, student and community activities to the benefit of others. Recipients have completed all their study in one program at Kwantlen; have consistently shown outstanding ability in the field; have contributed in a significant way to Kwantlen or community affairs; and may be recommended by faculty.

As a leader in innovative and interdisciplinary education, Kwantlen Polytechnic University offers all learners, regardless of background and preparation, opportunities to achieve the highest standards of academic performance.
