McPhail, the final KPU Eagles/Sheraton Guildford Vancouver 'Athlete of the Week' of 2014/15, for the week ending Sunday, March 8, 2015

Metro Vancouver.....The KPU Eagles are proud to announce the final Sheraton Vancouver Guildford 'Athlete of the Week' of the 2014/15 varsity season, for the week ending Sunday, March 8, 2015 as Samantha McPhail, Vancouver, BC, of women’s basketball.

In her final PACWEST CCAA game at the 2014/15 PACWEST Provincials, McPhail ended her KPU basketball career with an impressive 19 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, three blocked shots, and one steal as well as a ‘Player of the Game’ nod. The 2014/15 team co-captain also recorded four back-to-back games in which she achieved a double-double (for a total of six on the year).

McPhail’s university career stats include:
  • Regular season games: 97 games played, 739 regular season points, 798 rebounds, 96 assists
  • Post-season games: 6 games played, 56 points, 51 rebounds, 5 assists

“Sam came up with some big defensive stops for us in our playoff game, as well as made some key buckets in the second half,” stated Assistant Coach Jen Dudley ”She had a great end of the season and great playoff game. She was very strong and was a lead-by-example player for us.”

The KPU Eagles Department of Athletics & Recreation enters its 14th season of interuniversity competition. The Eagles are members of the PACWEST conference and play in the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) with 100 student-athletes participating on eight varsity teams in men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, badminton and golf. KPU athletics plays its home games at the Eagles’ Nest (Surrey Campus), Northview Golf & Country Club, Newton Athletic Park, all located in Surrey, BC and the Ace Badminton Centre in Richmond, BC.  The Eagles are active in the conference with staff members on various advisory committees and competing to host both provincial and national championships. The student-athletes are mainly from the lower mainland but KPU’s rosters have included student-athletes from North America, South America, Asia and Europe.
