Statement on tragedy at Vancouver Lapu Lapu Day festival

Dr. Alan Davis, President and Vice-Chancellor at KPU, issued the following statement on Sunday, April 27, 2025.

“KPU is shocked and horrified by the tragedy that occurred at the Lapu Lapu Day festival in East Vancouver on Saturday evening. To have a day of celebrating Filipino culture end this way is heartbreaking, and felt deeply by all of us.

“Our deepest condolences go out to those who lost loved ones and to those who suffered injuries. We stand in support of the entire Filipino community in B.C.

"Members of the KPU community have access to the following resources if they so need. If you see someone struggling, please share these resources if you think it would help."
