Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How do I dispute a parking violation ticket?

To dispute a violation ticket, visit the Concord Parking violations page. Further information is also printed on the back of your violation ticket.

Q: How do I cancel my parking permit?
  • Monthly permits: Log into your Parking Account and enter an end date on your permit. Monthly permits renew automatically on the 1st of each month until cancelled.
  • Semester and annual permits expire automatically on their predetermined end date — no action is needed.
⚠ To avoid being charged for the next month, cancellations must be completed before the 20th of the current month. No refunds are provided for cancellations made on or after the 20th.
Q: How do I get a refund on my parking permit?
  • Semester and annual permits are non-refundable except under extenuating circumstances.
  • Monthly permits: cancel before the 20th of the month to avoid charges for the following month. Cancellations after the 20th are non-refundable.
  • If you accidentally paid twice for parking, email parking@kpu.ca with your licence plate number and the email address linked to your account.
Q: How do I pay for parking?
  • Long-term permits (monthly, semester, annual) are purchased online through your Parking Account.
  • Hourly and daily parking can be purchased via PayByPhone, SMRTpass, or at any campus pay station using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or coins ($0.25, $1.00, and $2.00 only).
Q: How do I update my licence plate number?

Sign in to your Parking Account and update your vehicle licence plate under your account settings. You can register multiple plates to a single account.

Q: Are parking permits valid on all campuses?

Daily, monthly, semester, and annual permits are valid at KPU Surrey, KPU Richmond, KPU Langley, and KPU Tech (Cloverdale). Permits are not valid at Civic Plaza. Please refer to the Civic Plaza Parking page for information about parking at that location.

Q: How do I know when my permit expires?

You can view your permit expiry date in your Parking Account under "End Date". Daily, monthly, semester, and annual permits are valid until 11:59 pm on the day they expire.

Q: Do I need to display my parking receipt or permit on my dashboard?

No. KPU uses licence plate recognition (LPR) enforcement — your licence plate is linked to your payment in the system. There is nothing to print, display, or hang on your mirror.

Q: What is the difference between reserved and unreserved parking?
  • All parking operates on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Unreserved permit holders may only park in unreserved stalls until 4:00 pm Monday to Friday.
  • After 4:00 pm Monday to Friday, and anytime on Saturday and Sunday, unreserved permit holders may also park in reserved stalls.
  • If reserved parking is full, reserved permit holders may park in unreserved areas.
Q: Are there taxable benefits on employee parking permits?

Yes. Taxable benefits apply to employees who purchase a monthly, semester, or annual parking permit. Discounted employee parking permits are available to KFA, BCGEU, and administrative employees of KPU. Please refer to the information on taxable benefits related to parking.

Q: Do SPARC (accessible parking) permit holders need to purchase a parking permit?

No — students, staff, and visitors with a valid SPARC accessible parking permit do not need to purchase a parking permit, provided they are parked in a designated accessible stall. If parked in any other stall, a regular parking permit must be purchased.

Q: Is there overnight parking at KPU?

No. Overnight parking is not permitted at any KPU campus. Parking is only allowed during operating hours, 7:00 am to 11:00 pm.

Q: Do motorcycles or scooters require a parking permit?

Motorcycles and scooters parked in designated motorcycle/scooter stalls do not require a permit. If parked in a regular vehicle stall, a valid daily permit or long-term permit is required.

Q: What happens if parking is full and I have a permit?

Purchasing a parking permit does not guarantee a stall. Parking is first-come, first-served at all campuses. If a lot is full, consider the KPU Intercampus Shuttle, which runs between the Langley, Surrey, and Tech campuses.

Q: Is there free parking at KPU?

No. Pay parking is in effect at all KPU campuses 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The only exemptions are valid SPARC permit holders parked in designated accessible stalls, and motorcycles/scooters in designated stalls.
