About the Students

KPU Brewing student Philip Chrinko loves Italian Pilsners and teammate Samuel Smith loves a challenge, so they were both intrigued to see what they could create for their signature recipe beer.

Philip's background is in the automotive industry, having worked in sales and finance for 10 years. He learned about KPU winning Brewery of the Year at the 2019 BC Beer Awards and decided to start pursuing his passion for craft beer at KPU. His dream is to open his own brewery one day and apply both his business and brewing skills. In the meantime, when he’s not in school, you can find Philip working at Deep Cove Brewers & Distillers in North Vancouver or running after his two little kids.

Samuel was introduced to the craft beer scene by his best friend while working as a supervising lifeguard for the City of Delta, and was amazed by the science and sense of community. He became fascinated with the complexities of consistently producing exceptional beer that everyone could enjoy. Samuel will be traveling to England with his best friend to further fuel his passion and obtain a broader perspective on the industry, and intends to one day open his own brewery.
