About the Students

Second-year Brewing students Michael Hodgson and Mike Patterson wanted to brew a delicious, refreshing beer that was great for any occasion and taste preference, hence their highly drinkable Witbier, Summertime.

Michael Hodgson is a welder by trade and served 14.5 years in the military with several deployments but was looking for a new mission. As a homebrewer, he was drawn to the KPU Brewing Diploma. Michael’s favourite part about the program is the technical aspects of brewing and the analysis and quality control students learn. He hopes to open his own brewery in the future.

Mike Patterson graduated with a Chemistry degree and worked in a lab for five years before deciding he needed a change of pace. The KPU Brewing program combined his love of craft beer with his science background, and the rest is history. When he isn’t in school or studying, you can find Mike playing video games or working at 33 Acres Brewing in Vancouver.
