Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy

Kwantlen Polytechnic University is subject to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, RSBC 1996, c.165 (“FIPPA”).

Freedom of Information
Makes public bodies more open and accountable by providing the public with a legislated right of access to records in the custody or control of public bodies.

Protection of Privacy
Protects the right to personal privacy by prohibiting the unauthorized collection, use or disclosure of your personal information by public bodies.

FIPPA Compliance at Kwantlen Polytechnic University

  • Ensures appropriate collection, use, access, disclosure, storage, retention, and disposal of personal information by the university.
  • Manages requests for correction of personal information in the custody or under the control of KPU.
  • Employs reasonable security arrangements for the protection of personal information in the custody or under the control of KPU.
  • Receives and responds to complaints about possible unauthorized collection, use or disclosure of personal information.

Responsibilities
Employees of Kwantlen Polytechnic University are responsible for understanding FIPPA as it relates to their work, including employees of third party service providers.
