Navi Gill DPGENS (Douglas), BA (SFU), JD (Calgary), LLM (York)
Navi Gill has been a sessional instructor at KPU since 2006. She is Crown Counsel and has been a trial prosecutor since January 2004, a practicing lawyer since October 20, 2003 (date of her call to the Bar). She began her prosecutorial career in Smithers, B.C., when she also began teaching criminal law and legal systems at Northwest Community College between 2004 to 2006. She has travelled extensively through the course of her professional career.
Navi has served on numerous boards and within organizations as a guest lecturer/speaker; judge on moots and debates; and working projects within the community. She has devoted time to programs that address cultural and systemic barriers in society. She continues to contribute to many athletic and professional organizations including the Professional Legal Training Course, Law Society of British Columbia; the Canadian Bar Association Governance Task Force; as former co-chair of the Canadian Bar Association Public Lawyers Section and currently member at large of the Constitutional and Human Rights Executive of CBA National. She is a member of the International Association of Prosecutors and the International Society for the Reform of Criminal Law. She is a part of the Planning Committee for the ISRCL 2020 Vancouver, BC Conference and the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group for KPU Awards. Navi also sits as an expert on the Board of Advisors to Legalline.
Navi was the recipient of the 2017 Lexpert Zenith Award: Celebrating Women in Law, which celebrates the advancement of women in the legal profession. She was also the 2017 Canadian delegate to the National Association of Attorneys General Training and Research Institute in Washington, DC and New York City in the United States of America. In 2018, she was one of the nominees of the top 25 most influential lawyers in the Canadian Lawyer Magazine. One of her most fond contributions of service lies in her past time when she served the Canadian National Institute of the Blind and she continues to be an ambassador for the ICFSBC - an organization that leads Global/International Village Improvement Projects, which bring clean drinking water, safe sanitation, treatment of wastewater, and basic infrastructure upgrades that create a healthy living environment for people living in underserved rural communities.
NAVI GILL IS A SHORT-LISTED 2020 NOMINEE FOR THE DEAN OF ARTS TEACHING AWARD PRESENTED ANNUALLY TO A KPU FACULTY OF ARTS INSTRUCTOR IN RECOGNITION OF OUTSTANDING AND INNOVATIVE TEACHING PRACTICES THAT CONSISTENTLY ENCOURAGE STUDENTS SUCCESS AND ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT.
NAVI GILL IS A SHORT-LISTED 2020 NOMINEE FOR THE TOP 25 MOST INFLUENTIAL LAWYERS IN THE CANADIAN LAWYER MAGAZINE.
NAVI GILL IS CASTED TO PERFORM IN THE 2020 LAWYER SHOW "MAMMA MIA", CAROUSEL THEATRE AND TOUCHSTONE PRODUCTION (NOW WITH POTENTIAL SHOW DATES TBA IN 2021 FOR EITHER 2021 OR 2022).
