The 1st Annual Sociology Undergraduate Student Conference was held on May 6, 2011. More than sixty students, faculty, and staff attended this one day conference. There were nine sessions that examined various local and global issues from multicentric perspectives; and more than 35 sociology and other social science students attended and presented at the conference.
Thanks to you, we believe we have achieved the main goals and aims of this conference by bringing together students from various disciplines and by highlighting undergraduate research at both Kwantlen and other institutions of higher-learning in the province of British Columbia.
We thank all of those who attended and participated in this conference. Special thanks to those who presented their research, which was undertaken as part of their first, second, third, or fourth year courses in sociology, anthropology, political science, and criminology classes at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, Simon Fraser University, or the University of British Columbia.
We would like to thank the Sociology Department and the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research: Community Learning & Engagement (CIR:CLE) for their generous financial support for the conference, and the Centre for Global & Multicentric Education (CGEM) for sponsoring this conference. We would also like to thank the staff at the Print Services for printing all the promotional materials for this conference, and the Marketing and Communication Department for providing us with promotional materials. And, we would like to express our appreciation to the following individuals for their support and help in making this event a success: Seema Ahluwalia, Katherine Allwood, Dr. Farhad Dastur, Dr. Wade Deisman, Stephen Dooley, Dr. Marina Gasteva, Sean Kehler, Nicole Lotz, Scott McLeod, Dr. Diane Naugler, Dr. Joan Nesbitt, Dr. Charles Quist-Adade, Farzana Sunderji, and Dr. Fiona Whittington-Walsh .
