The Darlene Willier Legacy Award is established to honour the legacy of the late Darlene Willier, former First Nations Education Coordinator at KPU, whose lifelong commitment to Indigenous education, language revitalization, and cultural resurgence continues to guide and inspire future generations.

Criteria
Applicants must meet all of the following:
- Identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, or Inuit)
- Student must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program at KPU
- Student must be in good academic standing (minimum CGPA of 2.00 or greater).
Applicants are expected to demonstrate at least one of the following:
- active involvement and engagement (paid or unpaid) in Indigenous communities and/or on campus (volunteerism, cultural mentorship, etc.);
- advocacy or contributions supporting Indigenous rights, culture, language revitalization and/or social justice;
- a demonstrated commitment to personal or collective efforts toward cultural resurgence, identity reclamation, or holistic well-being.
- leadership roles or responsibilities within Indigenous communities or post-secondary (recognizing both visible and behind-the-scenes leadership).
Applicants must submit the following documents:
- A completed application form;
- A personal statement (500 ‑ 750 words) describing how they demonstrate one or more of the above attributes, which includes a short personal introduction, what Nation/community they are from, and their educational goals;
- A letter of support from one of the following who can speak to the applicant's contributions and attributes: an Indigenous Elder, community leader, Knowledge Keeper, or a KPU faculty member.
