Family Orientation

Welcome to Family Orientation! KPU's Family Orientation gives student supporters the opportunity to discover the academic, social and financial resources available to their students with exciting keynote speakers and KPU representatives. COVID-19 Update: KPU is committed to ensuring the health and wellbeing of its students. Following new guidelines to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus announced by BC’s Provincial Health Officer, KPU is working to move our Family Orientation programming from an in person orientation to an online format.

Welcome to Family Orientation!

If you weren't able to join us for Family Orientation on June 16, 2021, you can still watch it through the link above.

Why Family Orientation?

When adjusting to university life, students must build a support system to help them succeed. What does a healthy support system look like? How much support is enough or too much? How can a family member support a student without intrusion? We'll give you insight to the answers to these questions, and give you a firsthand overview of what post-secondary is like for students in the present day. Our goals are to help you stimulate conversation with your student, increase your awareness of what KPU has to offer your student, and help you and your students understand the post-secondary environment.

The evening will include:

  • A welcome by senior administration at KPU
  • Student Experience Panel - ask our current students anything you'd like to know about being a student at KPU
  • Faculty guest speaker sharing their point of view on how to succeed

This event is part of a suite of Orientation programs aimed at helping new students get the best start possible for their first semester. Family Orientation is designed for parents, guardians, and family members, but new students are not required to attend. New students will be expected to attend a separate (student-only) New Student Orientation event prior to the start of classes.

Unable to attend?

There are plenty of resources for parents and families of new students on our New Student Supporter page.
