KPU Farm Volunteer Program

This program offers participants the chance to connect with nature, stay active, and contribute to the community through the maintenance of both the KPU Farm and Learning Garden. Volunteers also engage with the community by assisting with workshops and events, while learning new skills, sharing knowledge, enjoying healthy food, and having fun.

All applicants will work in the garden and on the farm, assisting with tasks such as harvesting, seeding, transplanting, weeding, pruning, and clean-up. This role requires the ability to work outdoors and engage in hands-on activities without physical limitations.

To get the most out of the program, we recommend committing to at least 2-3 shifts per month for a minimum of 3 months. No experience is required, and we encourage those interested to try a few shifts, even if they’re unsure about committing fully.

Garden Shift Scheduling & Dates

Limited shifts will begin in March, with more added as the season progresses. Shifts decrease in September and the program typically ends by mid-October. There are 1-2 shifts open each week, usually falling on either Mondays or Wednesdays. While we encourage volunteers to attend at least a few shifts per month, shifts are offered on a sign-up basis for flexibility.

Community Event Scheduling & Dates

Many events are scheduled when the farming season is in full swing. Workshops and events are typically one-time occurrences and do not have regular dates throughout the season. These events may take place on or off the KPU Farm and will often include community engagement through educational materials and activities.

Training & Application Deadline

Applicants will have an informal interview with the volunteer coordinator to address questions and ensure alignment before the training shift. Volunteers must complete both an online and in-person orientation before signing up for shifts. Orientation days are available throughout the season, with applications accepted on a rolling basis until September. We will make every effort to respond to all applicants, but please note that responses may be limited if we reach capacity or if orientation sessions have already concluded for the season.
