Funding Your KPU Global Learning Experience

Application deadline: Friday, May 29th, 2020 at 4PM / Thursday, April 30th, 2020 at 4pm for Field School students

Amount: $1,000 to $3,500 (per recipient)

Download the application form and either submit it in-person to the KPU International Front Desk in Surrey (Cedar 1145) or Richmond (Room 1400), or via email (attaching the application as a .pdf file) to internationalprograms@kpu.ca by Friday, May 29th, 2020 at 4PM.

In 2017, 26 KPU students that studied abroad received a One World International Scholarship award of between $1,000-$3,500 to help fund their study abroad experience.
In 2018, that number increased to 37 KPU students that studied abroad receiving a One World International Scholarship award of between $1,000-$3,500.
In 2019, during the first round of this scholarships, 21 KPU students studying abroad received One World International Scholarship award of between $1,000-$3,500.

Application deadline: Tuesday, May 31st, 2020 at 4PM (received through the online application system)

Amount: $6,000 to $10,000

Student Awards and Financial Assistance

Scholarships and Awards
Students participating in international learning opportunities are still eligible to apply for KPU scholarships and awards. Please visit KPU Student Awards and Financial Assistance website. There are a few specific opportunities to draw attention to:

  • KPU Student Educational Enhancement Fund - (up to $500) to help support learning experiences outside of the classroom which are directly related to their program of study and educational goals. Most study abroad participants apply to get up to $500 reimbursed from their flight to join the study abroad program. This funding renews each academic year, so you can apply each year you are studying at KPU for multiple opportunities.

    Application Deadlines:
    Fall 2019: October 24th, 2019
    Spring 2020: February 20th, 2020
    Summer 2020: June 19th, 2020
     
  • KPU Student Leadership Awards - ($1000) awarded to a student who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to KPU student life while also maintaining a good academic standard.

    Application Deadline: February 26th, 2020
     
  • Dr. Barry Leach Endowed Memorial Awards - (up to $1360) will be presented to two students: one for studying Environmental Protection Technology and one for studying History and/or International Studies.

  • White Rock & Surrey Naturalists' Society Barry Leach Endowed Memorial Scholarship - (up to $1280) the White Rock & Surrey Naturalists' Society is pleased to present an award to a student with a commitment to ecology or environmental studies.

Award: Stories from Abroad: British Columbia Study Abroad Scholarship
Description: Scholarships for Canadian undergraduate students.
Amount: $1000
Deadline: March 2, 2020

Award: BC Study Abroad Scholarship
Description: Scholarships for Canadian undergraduate business students.
Amount: $1500

Award: Export Development Canada International Business Scholarships
Description: Scholarships for Canadian undergraduate business students.
Amount: 30 awards valued at $4000 each

Award: British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association (BUTEX) Award
Description: The Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place during the 2018/2019 academic year at UK university or college which is BUTEX affiliated.
Amount: £500
Deadline: June 15, 2020.

Award: Student Exchange Support Program (Scholarship for Short-term Study in Japan)
Description: This scholarship is for exchange students studying in Japan and is provided by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO). Past KPU students that studied in Japan have been successful recipients of this scholarship.
Amount: Monthly stipend of 80,000 JPY
Deadline: Determined by partner university in Japan. Please inquire through the school you go on exchange to.

Award: MEXT Research Student Scholarship
Description: This scholarship is for students who wish to study at Japanese universities as research or post-graduate students. The Research Student Scholarship is aimed at university graduates, born on or after April 2, 1985 (for the 2020 scholarship year). The area of research or post-grad study should be in the same or related field that the applicant has previously studied.  The term of the scholarship is 18 months to two years (including 6 months of Japanese language training) starting in April or October 2020. Please note that fluency in Japanese is not necessarily required, but dependent on the nature of the university and study program as selected by the scholarship candidate.
Amount: Full tuition, monthly allowance and round-trip flight between Japan and Canada. 
Deadline for the 2020 scholarship year: February 25, 2020

Award: 6th Annual Photo Contest
Description: This scholarship is for students who have been on exchange or are currently on exchange. To enter you must submit a photo from your study abroad experience. You can upload up to 5 photo's per entry and you enter as many times as you like. Photos must be original, non-blurry, and include caption and location.
Prize: GoPro Hero 6

Student Loans

Students participating in exchange and some other international learning opportunities are generally eligible to apply or remain eligible for their student loans. For information on applying, please visit the KPU Student Awards and Financial Assistance website.  Students seeking additional funding can also inquire with any financial institution regarding loans and a Coast Capital Savings student lines of credit.
