Funding Your KPU Global Learning Experience

Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society

  • The One World International Scholarship program provides multiple scholarships to students studying abroad each year.
    In the last year, 26 KPU students received awards of between $1,000-$3,500 to help fund their study abroad experience.
    Application deadline: Monday, December 3rd, 2018 (Extended).

    Amount: $1,000 to $3,500

    Download the application form and either submit in-person to the KPU International office at Surrey Cedar 1145 or Richmond, room 1400, or via email (in a .pdf file) to internationalprograms@kpu.ca by Monday, December 3rd, 2018 at 4PM.

  • The Premier's Scholarship application must be submitted directly to the Irving K. Barber BC Scholarship Society.
    Application deadline: April 30th, 2018 at 4:00PM (received at the Irving K. Barber BC Scholarship Society Office)

    Amount: $6,000 to $10,000

Scholarship Opportunities Through KPU Partner Institutions 

  1. Ernst Mach Grant 

The Ernst Mach Grant is for students who are studying at one of the University of Applied Sciences in Austria. Students who are selected by KPU to study at our partner school, Vienna University of Applied Sciences will receive 1,050 euros per month during your exchange time.

In order to be eligible you will need to apply for the exchange program before the deadline for both KPU exchange application and the Ernst Mach Grant. If you are interested, please make an appointment with one of the KPU Study Abroad Coordinators in Surrey or Richmond campus. To make an appointment, please go to the Advisor Connect and see the KPU Study Abroad Coordinator’s availability.

  • Eligibility:
    - Study level: Master/graduate students or Bachelor/undergraduate students. Bachelor students need to have successfully completed at least 4 semesters of studies by the time of taking up the grant.
    - Maximum age: 35 years (born on or after October 1st, 1983).
    - Applicants must not have studied/pursued research/pursued academic work in Austria in the last six months before taking up the grant.
    - Language proficiency: applicants have to be proficient in the language of instruction. In case of FHWien of WKW that would be English OR German.
    Amount: 1,050 Euros per month (up to 10 month)
    Application Deadline: to be considered, you will have to submit your exchange application online by Sunday, January 13th, 2019.

Student Awards and Financial Assistance

Scholarships and Awards
Students participating in international learning opportunities are still eligible to apply for KPU scholarships and awards. Please visit KPU Student Awards and Financial Assistance website. There are a few specific opportunities to draw attention to:

  • KPU Student Educational Enhancement Fund - (up to $500) to help support learning experiences outside of the classroom which are directly related to their program of study and educational goals.
     
  • KPU Student Leadership Awards - ($1000) awarded to a student who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to KPU student life while also maintaining a good academic standard.
     
  • Dr. Barry Leach Endowed Memorial Awards - (up to $1360) will be presented to two students: one for studying Environmental Protection Technology and one for studying History and/or International Studies.

  • White Rock & Surrey Naturalists' Society Barry Leach Endowed Memorial Scholarship - (up to $1280) the White Rock & Surrey Naturalists' Society is pleased to present an award to a student with a commitment to ecology or environmental studies.

External Awards Specific to International Learning Opportunities

Award: BC Study Abroad Scholarship
Description: Scholarships for Canadian undergraduate business students.
Amount: $1500

Description: Scholarships for Canadian undergraduate business students.
Amount: 30 awards valued at $4000 each

Award: British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association (BUTEX) Award
Description: The Scholarship is open to all undergraduate students currently registered at an institution in the USA or Canada. To be eligible to apply you must have been offered a study abroad or exchange place during the 2018/2019 academic year at UK university or college which is BUTEX affiliated.
Amount: £500
Deadline: 15th June 2018.

Award: Student Exchange Support Program (Scholarship for Short-term Study in Japan)
Description: This scholarship is for exchange students studying in Japan and is provided by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO). Past KPU students that studied in Japan have been successful recipients of this scholarship.
Amount: Monthly stipend of 80,000 JPY
Deadline: Determined by partner university in Japan. Please inquire through the school you go on exchange to.

Student Loans

Students participating in exchange and some other international learning opportunities are generally eligible to apply or remain eligible for their student loans. For information on applying, please visit the KPU Student Awards and Financial Assistance website.  Students seeking additional funding can also inquire with any financial institution regarding loans and a Coast Capital Savings student lines of credit.
