Job Description
The work involves diagnosing and correcting the problems in engines and equipment that are not running or performing poorly. This may require familiarity with pumps, generators, hydraulics, lawn and garden equipment, recreational equipment, turf and small farm equipment. The outdoor power equipment trade can be quite diverse.
Working Conditions
There is much variety in the work from day to day and season to season. Outdoor Power Equipment technicians who engage in general repairs may work outdoors in both summer and winter. There may be access to a shop, but tools are portable and many phases of this work involves on site repairs, and may involve shift work. The normal work week of 35-40 hours is usual, but busy summer weekends at a marina or country club may require longer work days. Technicians employed by a transportation firm will probably work in a depot where the equipment is brought in for servicing, although emergencies may require on site repairs.
