New Co-op Program Update: COOP 1101 Now Open to All KPU Students
What’s New (Starting Fall 2025):
We’ve made the Co-op program more accessible and flexible! Here's what’s changing:
COOP 1101 is now open to all KPU students — even if your program doesn’t have a Co-op option.
Students in Co-op eligible programs can now apply to join the Co-op program at any time - no intake deadlines.
Co-op applications will be reviewed bi-weekly instead of following fixed deadlines.
Program acceptance is conditional on completing COOP 1101 and meeting continuance requirements.
What’s Not Changing:
You must still be in a Co-op eligible program if you wish to join Co-op and seek for a Co-op work placement.
Students must continue to meet GPA and program continuance requirements to access Co-op job postings.
Work terms remain full-time, paid positions that align with your field of study.
International students still need a valid Co-op work permit before starting a work term.
These updates allow you to explore the Co-op experience earlier while maintaining the high standards and support the program is known for.
What is COOP 1101?
COOP 1101 is a 1-credit, 6-week course designed to help you build essential job-search and career-readiness skills. You’ll learn how to:
Write effective resumes and cover letters
Prepare for interviews and job searches
Communicate professionally and network
Explore career goals and pathways
Who Can Register for COOP 1101?
All KPU students can register for COOP 1101 starting Fall 2025—even if they are not in a Co-op program or are in a program without a Co-op option.
Not sure about joining Co-op yet? This course is still a great opportunity to build practical, career-ready skills for any industry.
Planning to Join Co-op?
If your program offers a Co-op option, there are now two flexible ways to get started:
Apply to the Co-op program first — you’ll be notified of your conditional acceptance based on your eligibility.
Register for COOP 1101 first — you can submit your Co-op application anytime before completing the course.
What’s new: You can now apply to the Co-op program at any time—there are no fixed intake deadlines as long as you haven’t completed COOP 1101. However, registering in COOP 1101 does not automatically grant access to Co-op and co-op job postings. To gain access and begin your job search, you must:
Submit a Co-op application
Be declared in a program with a Co-op option
Meet your program’s GPA and continuance requirements
Once these are confirmed, the Co-op option will be added to your student record and you’ll be released to view and apply to jobs.
International students must also hold a valid Co-op work permit before starting a work term.
Why Take COOP 1101 If You’re Not in Co-op?
Even if you're not planning to join Co-op, this course is a great way to prepare for part-time jobs, internships, and post-graduation career opportunities.
It’s ideal for students at any stage who want to build confidence in their job search and career planning.
