Library Instruction
KPU Library strives to empower its students, faculty and staff by creating lifelong skills towards finding, evaluating and using information sources through providing instruction that promotes and encourages equity, empowerment, and critical research and information literacy. Guided by the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education, information literacy is defined as "the set of integrated abilities encompassing the reflective discovery of information, the understanding of how information is produced and valued, and the use of information in creating new knowledge and participating ethically in communities of learning" (ACRL, 2015).
Our liaison librarians work with faculty to support students by providing scaffolded sessions on library orientation, research skills, academic integrity, and citations. These sessions can be based on a specific assignment, course, or program and librarians can offer library instruction to your students both in-person and online, that fit either the whole class meeting or a portion of the class.
Your liaison librarian can also support you by creating research assignments or online research guides and tutorials to compliment instructional sessions.
In many of our sessions, students will:
- Identify what research support and materials are available to them through the library’s collection (print and online)
- Develop comprehensive research strategies for their assignments
- Utilize more scholarly, authoritative, and diverse sources
- Learn to understand and develop strong citation practices and methods of citation management
