Global Indigenous Learning Experience Summer 2026
Are you an Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) student at KPU?
Applications are now open to join an amazing 5-week hybrid global learning experience with Indigenous students at KPU and Edith Cowan University (ECU), Australia.
You will participate in online and in-person sessions led by Elders, scholars, and community members, covering topics such as culture, history, language revitalization, place and identity, resurgence, futurisms, and Indigenous sovereignty.
This initiative is a collaboration between KPU's Indigenous Services, KPU International, Kurongkurl Katitjin and International at ECU.

Program Details
- Duration: 5 weeks
- Virtual sessions (Zoom)
- 5 sessions throughout month of May:
• Week 1 (May 4 – 8): Opening Session (1 – 1.5 hour)
• Week 2 (May 11 - 15): 2-hour KPU session x 2
• Week 3 (May 25 - 29): 2-hour ECU session x 2
- 5:30 -7:30 pm PDT (2 hours)
- In-person: 8-6 pm, Monday to Friday
- 1 week in Vancouver /ECU students at KPU June 19 - 28
- 1 week in Perth / KPU students at ECU July 2 - 12
- Cultural activities + academic sessions
- Time available for sightseeing
- Virtual sessions (Zoom)
- Credit value: Not for credit.
- Mode: Virtual (synchronous) and in-person.
- Student Capacity: 10 students (5 KPU and 5 ECU)
Fee
- A Commitment fee of $150.00 is required from all participating students.
- The program fee of $5,000.00 is subsidized through the Indigenous Leadership Award. Students selected for the program will automatically receive this award and do not need to submit a separate award application. Refer to chart below for details on the costs covered by the award and what costs are to be covered by selected students.

Eligibility
- Indigenous students of Canada (First Nations, Metis, Inuit)
- Must be currently enrolled as a full-time student and in good academic standing
- Have a minimum GPA of 2.0
- Completed a minimum of 9 post-secondary credits and will be continuing studies at KPU in Fall 2026
- Recommendation from 1 KPU faculty, or community reference
- Ability to commit to the whole program (virtual and in person) – attendance to all activities is required + alignment with personal goals
- Participate in pre- and post-participation reporting requirements
Program Experience
The ECU component is delivered by Kurongkurl Katitjin, Centre for Indigenous Australian Education Research. The KPU component is delivered by the Indigenous Services for Students.
