Exam Hardships
What is an exam hardship?
Students who have three or more synchronous final examinations scheduled on the same day may take their final examinations as scheduled or request alternate arrangements. This does not apply to take home exams, asynchronous exams, or final evaluations.
A final exam that interferes with a student's travel plans does not count as a conflict or a hardship.
What should I do?
Email all the three instructors of the course with the exam conflict no later than one month prior to the exam period. If the instructor(s) is unable to resolve the examination hardship, the Dean will be consulted.
Include the following information in your email:
- KPU student number
- the Subject, Course Number, Section and CRN of the courses and exam dates and times.
If you don't know the contact of the instructors, you can find their information from the KPU Directory.
Exam Cancellations
In the event that KPU is closed due to inclement weather, new exam dates and times will be communicated to affected students. If the university is open, then you are expected to attend your exam at the scheduled place and time. In the event that your instructor elects to cancel an exam when the university remains open, please contact your instructor for the new exam date.
Students are reminded to check their student.kpu.ca account for specific updates. Please note, if you miss a scheduled exam that the University has not cancelled, there are no assurances of a make-up exam.
Faculty that need an alternate exam scheduled and KPU was not closed, should contact their Dean.
For overall campus status information, please remember to check the Campus Status Updates website regularly.
Exam Guidelines
It is the student's responsibility to attend the final examinations scheduled for thier classes.
Be sure to bring your KPU student ID card to your exams. If you are unable to provide an acceptable proof of identify, the instructor may deny you the opportunity to write the exam.
The instructor may have other stipulations for exams that will be provided in class or the course syllabus. For example, your instructor may have restrictions on what materials are permitted. Contact your instructor if you are unsure about your instructor’s expectations for the exam.
Students should review Policy ST2 Student Academic Integrity before writing exams.
