Stand on Guard for Thee — Whether it is from colonial invaders or America’s cultural influence, Canadians have always been wary of intruding forces. They fortify what Northrop Frye called Canada’s “Garrison Mentality”: an outward-looking, defensive mode of survival. This course explores the legacy of this garrison in Canadian literature and film.
