We will a lso examine how sport defines us through a wide range of social and economic implications, past and present. Combining perspectives from archaeology, biological and socio-cultural anthropology you will develop a broad understanding of fitness and sport in human societies.

The ancient societies of what is now Mexico and Central America are known for pyramids, the ball game, and human sacrifice. They also invent ed chocolate, corn, and cooking with chile peppers. This course examines societies like the Maya, Aztec, and the Olmec through their early development until pas t their encounter with Spanish conquistadores.
