Program Highlights and Travel Dates

New York Fashion field school will be taught in FASN 3900, a 3 credit, special topics course. Pre-departure course hours will be a total of 12 hours over three days and will take place in the Summer 2023 semester. In this field school, New York City will be our classroom. It provides opportunities for you to engage with the fashion industry on an international level. There have been a number of changes in the fashion industry resulting from the global pandemic and this will be a chance for you to explore and experience these industry shifts and changes firsthand on an international level.

Travel during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Currently we are still in the midst of a global COVID-19 pandemic, where there are various health measures in place depending on the country and region. It is the responsibility of each participant in the field school to read and understand the current policies, entry requirements, and restrictions for international travel to New York, USA. If there are any circumstances or concerns that will affect your participation, please discuss them with the field school faculty leaders.

  1. Travel to the United States 
  2. Travel by air and rail as of October 1, 2022 from the Government of Canada:
  • You shouldn't travel to Canada if you have COVID-19 symptoms
  • All passengers are strongly recommended to wear a mask while they travel

  3. Travel Advisory by the Canadian government
 

Cost and Payment Details 

Program Fee

$3,580 CAD (estimated) 


Program fee covers:

  • Accommodation,
  • Local transportation,
  • Tours, city transfers, 
  • Entrance fees to museum/gallery/exhibitions.  
  • Two group dinners
  • Student travel insurance

Does NOT cover:

  • Flights
  • Your personal spending budget
  • Additional transportation costs, 
  • Most meals
  • KPU tuition (3 credits) 

NOTE: Should a decision be made by KPU to cancel a field school due to low enrolment or other academic/risk issues, participants will be entitled to a full rebate of any payments made including the deposit.

*Rate based on 3 credit charge through Tuition Estimator for Wilson School of Design’s Fashion and Technology field of study with University and KSA fees added. Additional fees may apply to your KPU account for the Multi-Pass and Kwantlen Student Association Extended Dental and Health Plan.     

**For a more accurate estimate, please search for the field school flight dates through your preferred provider. There will be the option to work with our tour provider to opt in to a group flight option with a minimum number of students opting in, which would result in a reduction in air fare costs. Further information about this will be shared in the new year.

Classes Offered and Pre-requisites

FASN 3900 Design Field School (3 credits)

Pre-departure classes are scheduled for May 17, 18 and 19, and are co-taught by Heather Clark and Michael Pope. Exact times for these classes will be shared closer to the date. Some of the pre-departure work will be done self-paced over Moodle.  

Pre-requisites

48 credits of 1100 level or higher courses, or with permission from field school instructors.

Note that no previous Design experience is needed to enroll in FASN 3900. 
All KPU students are welcome and are encouraged to apply.
