Peer Mentor Application Form

Are you a current student at KPU who's interested in supporting new international students? Join our team of professional mentors and become a part of the KPU International community today.

Spring 2025 applications will be open by the end of October/November 2024.

Peer Mentors are current KPU students who are passionate about supporting their peers in the academic journey. They typically have experience studying at KPU and are involved in various KPU student life activities. The mentors perform the duties listed below to help the new students settle into their first semester of university studies. 

DUTIES

  • Regular outreach to mentees via emails, MS Teams, one-on-one virtual support and other assigned communication tools
  • Plan and run regular virtual Teams drop-in sessions
  • Share KPU's academic and non-academic resources
  • Make referrals to peer tutors, academic advisors, counsellors, and other KPU support services
  • Encourage mentees to set goals and create an action plan with an International Academic Advisors and Learning Strategists
  • Plan social events with other mentors for mentees in the program
  • Be available for regular program meetings, social activities and ongoing communication with the supervisor & peers within the program
  • Perform other duties assigned

REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently enrolled students at KPU (Domestic, International & Indigenous students welcome)
  • Completed a minimum of 2 semesters at KPU and at least 18 credits. Preference will be given to KPU students, who are enrolled in full-time studies of 9 credits or more for the employed semester
  • Minimum KPU CGPA of 2.5 and in good academic standing. Transcript required for application.
  • If you are an international student, your Study Permit should not expire sooner than the end of the working semester
  • Preference given to students with experience in one or more of the following areas: Orientation Leader, International Student Life Volunteer, Peer Tutor
