New International Student Checklist
▢ Apply for Required Documents
Apply for your Study Permit, eTA and/or Temporary Resident Visa (if applicable).
KPU has partnered with BorderPass to give you easy access to trusted immigration support. This partnership helps you submit a stronger, more accurate study permit application and gives you peace of mind throughout your time in Canada. ▢ Review the Pre-Arrival Guide

▢ Submit Your Study Permit
In-Person
You can submit your study permit in-person at our Surrey KPU International Office (Cedar Building, Room 1145).
Online Portal: internationalupload.kpu.ca
You can submit your study permit by using the Document Submission Portal (internationalupload.kpu.ca).
By E-mail: international@kpu.ca
You can submit proof of your study permit by email (international@kpu.ca). Please make sure that:
▢ The subject line of your email includes your name and KPU student ID
▢ The entire study permit is visible and all the text is legible
▢ The document has not been altered in any way
▢ Download UniBuddy
UniBuddy is an app that connects you with peers and student mentors to learn about life at KPU — from academics and campus culture to student life and more. You will receive an invitation link through your KPU email — simply accept it to start engaging with the KPU communities.
▢ Register for Courses
On the assigned registration date and time, you must register for your courses. You can find your registration ticket under Academics/Register for Classes at myKPU.ca Student Portal. We also run free registration webinars every semester, usually about a month before the registration period starts – keep an eye out for an invitation on your KPU email!
▢ Sign Up for Orientation
New Student Orientation is our flagship welcome event at KPU. This event is to welcome new students to the KPU community, get to know the physical campus, and meet new people. It is an opportunity to familiarize yourself with all of the services and resources KPU has available to help you succeed. We host New Student Orientation before the start of each semester (Fall, Summer, Spring). Learn more at kpu.ca/orientation.
▢ Discover the IPM Program
Learn more about the International Peer Mentorship Program. As a new student, you are automatically assigned an International Peer Mentor to support you in your first semester at KPU!
▢ Connect with Your International Education Advisor
Your Advisor will contact you in your KPU email before the start of classes. To book an appointment or view the drop-in schedule, please visit kpu.ca/international/advising.
▢ Review the Dates & Deadlines
Check all important dates and deadlines for your first semester such as last day to pay your tuition & fees in full, class registration, dropping classes without penalty etc.
▢ Update Personal Information (Important!)
Please update your email and mailing address on the myKPU Student Portal. Please note that all correspondence from KPU will be sent to your KPU email address and NOT your personal email. If you want to update any other information, please visit kpu.ca/ses/personal-information.
▢ Check Your KPU email
And check frequently! This is where you will receive important messages and updates from the University. You can access your KPU email via myKPU.ca. For instructions on how to set up and use your KPU email, please visit kpu.ca/studentemail.
▢ Prepare for Your Classes
Find resources with tips on how to prepare for and adapt to a Canadian classroom at kpu.ca/international/achieving-academic-success. Be sure to also take the Academic Integrity tutorial prior to the start of classes at kpu.ca/academicintegrity/introduction-to-academic-integrity.
▢ Review the University Calendar
calendar.kpu.ca is the official guide to KPU’s programs and where you can find a list of courses you are required to take in your program.
▢ Apply for a Student ID Card
Apply for your student ID card as early as possible!
▢ Find Housing
New student housing complex is coming to KPU Surrey soon. In a meantime, check out other options available to all students outside of KPU at kpu.ca/current-students/housing.
▢ Download the TELUS Health Student Support App
The TELUS Health Student Support Program provides all KPU students with 24/7 Professional Counselling. Access to a large, diverse network of professional counsellors matches your unique circumstances with a counsellor who understands these experiences, in your preferred language and culture. Counsellors can provide immediate support and referrals to address a range of concerns. Learn more at kpu.ca/counselling/support.
